After Tuesday’s post, I had a lot of people ask me if I was a fan of Target. Why, yes! What made you think that?
However, a recent trip might be my favorite trip to date. Look at all the cute stuff I scored:
Have a nice weekend everyone!

Today is my dad’s birthday! HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAD! And, in an attempt to put him in a good mood before dinner tonight, I’ve compiled a list of some off-the-beaten-path gifts my brother, Bobby, and I have gotten him over the years (that seemed to go over pretty well).

There are so many tasks that you can’t ever schedule – you just have to do them when you have the time, motivation and materials. I find I’m more likely to do the annoying tasks when I don’t make a big deal out of them - I just fit them in. Most of the time, I fit them in while I’m waiting for something else.
For example, I’ve always cleaned out my wallet and purse while I wait at the coffee shop for my latte. Since I don’t go to the coffee shop very often (I usually make lattes at home), it works out really well. And I have everything I need (my purse, my wallet, and a trash can) and the time and motivation to do it. It is a perfect task that I just fit into my daily (or weekly) life.
Some other “while you’re waiting” tasks include: (more…)

So I realize this isn’t a tip that everyone can use… not too many people have a bunch of very large images they need to shrink down all at once. And not everyone has Photoshop (if you don’t have Photoshop, I have a work-around tip for you at the end).
HOWEVER, I think this handy time-saving tip is pretty awesome and maybe (hopefully) at least a few of you do too:

That’s a little arugula leaf as the heart… cute, huh?
This salad is so yummy, and really easy. But it’s not very filling and it doesn’t have protein so if you don’t eat it as a side salad, you’ll be hungry again.
Arugula Side Salad
2 cups Baby Arugula
1 Fuji Apple (diced)
1/2 tablespoon Champagne Pear Vinaigrette with Gorgonzola dressing from Trader Joe’s
Combine all ingredients. Enjoy!
My office has baseball season tickets for Business Development purposes. Every so often, we have games that aren’t reserved for BD, so we raffle them off for the employees. Before I got here, the raffle coordinator would actually conduct a raffle… printing out each person’s name on a strip of paper, folding it up, putting it in a hat and drawing a winner. What a waste of time! This is so much faster. And since most of our employees aren’t in the main office any way, it doesn’t matter how a winner is selected (just as long as it’s random).
Here’s how we do raffles in Excel now:
1. Set up the list of names in Excel. All the names should be in one column.

2. Go to Random.org and use the sequence generator to generate a squence of numbers in one column:

I was excited to take my nieces to a “Something on Ice” show and thought back to when my dad took me to some “Fairy on Ice” thing when I was a kid. Then I remembered the stupid fairy flashlight I begged him to buy me because all the kids had something that glowed in the dark. That stupid flashlight was probably $10! In 1990!
Plan ahead and bring your souvenirs!
The party store had cheap glow-in-the-dark rings, toys and jewelry and the girls were thrilled! They gave out extras to other little girls sitting nearby.
Last year, I took Dakota to a dinosaur show (Jacquelyn was too scared to go with us) and I brought a dinosaur coloring book, dinosaur stickers, a toy dinosaur and dinosaur “eggs” (candies) for her during the show. I gave her dinosaur pajamas (that were way too big for her!) after the show to sleep in. Everything was at Target, and the toy dinosaur was exactly the same one they were hawking at the show (but $9 less!).
With a little pre-planning, you can avoid the begging, pleading and tears over show junk. Here are some ideas for items you can bring with you to shows, zoos, and amusement parks:
- toys
- coloring books and crayons
- candy
- shirts or slippers
- glow-in-the-dark stuff
- stickers
- hair accessories
- hats
Also, if you’re taking a little girl to Disneyland, you should be aware that the trend is to dress up as a princess. There are even little beauty parlors in the park that will do hair and make-up! My sisters arrive at the park prepared with princess dresses from Target and save a bundle over buying dresses in the park.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I present to you my first guest blogger! My adorable dad took it upon himself to not only write this post about his *original* Nutella Stuffed Strawberry recipe, but to also provide original pictures.
Take it away dad! (more…)
